Speaking of good little dancers, I have fond memories of dancing around the living room, with me standing on the tops of dad's feet "dancing" with him. This must have been when I was about six or seven years old. It was so much fun.

I extremely thankful for the "life Lessons" dad taught me. like when he bought those tools from a family only to get them home and find several different names on them. he then felt uncomfortable in keeping them and took them back. when he got there he "sensed" they really needed the money from the sale of the tools and so he let them keep both the money and the tools! I'm sure that's just one example of hundreds we may never know about and he probably likes it that way. what a great example of the saviors love.

after getting stuarts E-mail this week, I got a hand written letter. it expressed how discouraged he is in his new area, with his new companion. the work is going slow and he's not totally getting along with his companion. to make it worse, he's got the denny curse of not sleeping. to say the least, he's discouraged. any who would feel comfortable sending him a hand written letter of encouragement would be greatly appreciated. I've always worried he would get discouraged, because he doesn't work through it real well. thanks for all your love and support. Dave

hey yall this is Elder Stuart J. Denny. how is everything going in that fine state of Utah. I hope that all is going well for you and that you are all finding Joy in your life. If there is anything thati can do for any of you please feel free to ask. I know that i can't do much but I can write people who might need to be cheered up. so if there is anything that i can write to anyone about just let me know. so Vermont, not much is going on in this rinky dink town of Middleburry. oh one thing there is going to be a baptism on October 8th. Her name is Kayla she is sixteen, and she is doing great she is showing so much faith and is just progressing like i wish everyone that i came into contact would. News from me let's see i'm not sleeping. (that's not really news though) i'm reading a lot more than i think i've ever done in my entire life. and it's gotten t o the point that i'm reading for more than the fact that i can't sleep at night. i'm actually enjoying reading. i like getting new information ;that i can use in teaching or just so that i know for my benifit. so that is always good. right now with Investigators we have some but not a whole lot. we are really struggling to get them to keep there comitments to us. so they aren't really progressing yet but i'm sure they will be soon. Yesterday we went tracting and found some people that i think will be good in the near future. they didn't set up a time for us to come back quite yet however, they were really interested and i know that they felt the spirit. so that is always a good thing. oh Mom mentioned fall to me yes fall is here. she said that it's pretty cold there well just so you know it can't be colder than it is here. Last week i could see my breathe. that''s crazy i'm not suppose to see my breathe till at least november. the colors aren't quite here but yes your right they are well on there way. i think it'll just be a week or two and they'll all be burning up the mountain with vibrant colors. the only thing that i think will stop that is we are so far having a pretty moist fall and if it doesn't dry out soon i'm not sure how the colors will be. Personally i'm praying for no rain. Anyway that is all for now there really isn't a lot going on. oh yes i did get my contacts thank you thank you thank you so much. i can see it is a great thing. and i am in a lot less pain now as well so thank you mother. the only thing is i know i should have told you this before you sent a package cuz now it'll be just more money. but i'm going to be sending you my short sleeve shirts in a little bit and i'm going to need like two or three long sleeves for the winter i know i'm going to freeze. so i'll get you my size of preferance in a little bit until then don't worry about getting them until i send you my other ones home. so ya that is all that is going on in the life of a missionary in Vermont. oh wait one more thing that yall can look forward to is i'm going to send you all some pure, true, real Maple Syrup from Vermont. there isn't any syrup like this kind it is amazingly different. so get ready to treat your taste buds to some waffles and pancakes.But i think that this time that is all i have to say. you all rock my socks off you are all wonderful and i thank you for all that you do for me i love you all and pray for you continually. This isn't a memory because he still does it today. Grandpa seems to make everyone feel welcome. If any of his family members bring friends to any of the family get togethers, they become a Denny. (at least for the day) Not only is that a great example to me, but to the whole family. I love you Grandpa.

Bacon grease popcorn. Do I really need to say anymore? Who else but Dad would invent such a wonderful Sunday evening treat? And do you remember the size of the bowl we needed to feed us all? It was about the size of a VW Beetle.

I'm sure this is one that a lot of the family members will also remember, but one of the things I love about our Dad is the memories of all of us marching around the living room together. How many dads would have such a great collection of John Phillips Sousa music? The one I remember best is Stars and Stripes Forever.

Teaching us all of the "secrets" to life -- like how to get to sleep when the airstream is overflowing with little ones -- including Valerie in the bathtub!!

With that kind of sleep therapy, there was only one thing to awaken us after a long, dirty day of playing in the woods -- Mom cooking bacon on the trailer stove along with sourdough biscuits.

# 11 Onion sandwiches

Not too many dad's would care enough to take the time to sit up in the middle of the night with their teenage daughter and share raw onion sandwiches and talk for hours. I now realize that he was going to work at 5 in the morning and Stake President at this time too. Because you were unselfish and gave me that time without ever making me feel like I was imposing, my life was eternally blessed in many ways...not the least of which was a close relationship with a great man, my dad!

What other father would build in a checker/chess board into the tiles in the family room floor so we all could play it. I remember playing many a game with dad down there on the floor! ( And I remember winning more than once... I believe it was a similar situation to catching a fish while I was (holding) his pole for him!) This is just the first of many great things that I can think of so you will be hearing from me again.

"Sing for me......Ahhhhhhh" I would have never known about the Phantom of the Opera without the help of Grandpa. I'm not sure if the closet in the dining room is still full of cd's or not but that is how I was introduced to one of the greatest operas. I love you very much, Grandpa!

Reason number 7: The fishing!

I'll never forget all of the fishing trips to Blackfoot (you haven't lived until you've driven though Henry, Idaho - with both eyes open!), American Falls, Newton, the Portneuf, the Weber river, State Line, and every other body of water we've been to - Grandpa taught me how to fish. Some of my fondest memories are of trips we used to take when I was little. I remember sleeping over and we would go to Bountiful Jr. to get worms in the dark. Talk about a good time!

If you still aren't convinced about how good Grandpa is at fishing, just ask him about the time he caught a huge fish using the corner of his shirt for bait - or the time he caught two suckers on the Portneuf, at THE SAME TIME!

#6 What a great Dad to fill in the rest of the money to give me a trip of a lifetime---6 weeks in Europe. I remember asking---thinking it was just a joke---during dinner one night at the start of my senior year, "How about if I go to Europe during next summer for 6 weeks!"
When Dad and Mom said maybe it could happen I could not believe it.
I saved about $500-600 dollars in about 8 months--and they helped with the rest. I was making $1.50 an hour at the time--and worked part time!!
What Dad always seems to make up the rest when you come up short!

The 5TH REASON Grandpa is the best..........He is the best Backgammon player/teacher in the world. I remember Grandpa teaching me how to play backgammon with him when I was younger. I usually won, but I think he did that on purpose. If you are ever looking for a good, competative game of backgammon, he is the one to turn to.

The number 4 reason Grandpa is the best in the world - He would always let me do his hair when I was younger. He would lay back in his big chair and let us grandkids give him a hair makeover. He does have great hair!! We love you Grandpa!

Some Tragic News About Norma's Family

I'm sorry to use such an impersonal means to communicate such tragic news, but I felt it was best to get the word out as soon as I could, and the blog seemed to be the best way to do it.

I have just heard from Karyn that her sister Peni (Norma's youngest daughter) ran over her little granddaughter yesterday and killer her. The little girl was the 3rd child of Peni's son Dimitri, who was living with Peni and her husband to save money to go to school.

I am going to send a check for $50 to Peni from the Denny Family Fund, with a nice card from all our extended family. I will ask her to use the check for whatever would be of most help to her son at this time.

We have money in the fund that has been sent for Dad's party, so there should be enough to cover it. I hope no one minds me making a decision without consulting everyone, but I want to get it in the mail tonight so she can get it as soon as possible.

elder denny

Well, this last week has been one of the worse weeks ever, i have been sick all week. i called the mission doctor and he says that I have strep throat and it really stinks, but he is getting me some kind of medicine and hopefully i'll be all fixed up in ten days (that's what he says).
the dentist went well he filled the hole for free as you all know, the lord is definitely watching over his missionaries. the dentist isn't even a member. so i sent him a thank you card in the mail the other day.
oh did i tell you all that i saw a bear the other day it was great! me and elder wing were driving back from an appointment, driving down this back country road, i said to Elder wing "wouldn't that be sweet if we saw a moose right now" he's like ya that would be so cool. so we came around the bend. and what did we see. "pop corn popping on the appricote tree" nope. we saw a Bear walking down the side of the road. as soon as he saw the car it took off crossing the road and then running down this hill out of sight. i can't beleive it i didn't even get it on camera.
Good News---- Yesterday (sunday) we had 6 people in Sacrement, and after words we went over to one of their house's and she told us very bluntly "okay, i want to be a member what do i need to do" we had only taught her one lesson. sweet. so now we met with her mom since she is only 16. and now we are going to teach her mom and i think that her mom is going to be getting baptized with her. so i'm pretty excited about that.
oh by the way DAD you haven't sent me pictures of your new truck or your new Van. i want to see them. also some pictures of the new trailor. In the Video i couldn't see a thing. i'm going to be sending my camera card home to you all soon. it is almost full of pictures really good pictures. you all should be excited.
Sleeping is going really crappy that Meletonin isn't doing a thing for me anymore. i think that my body has become immune to it. also i've tried SleepInAll and it doens't work. also i tried NyQuil and not even three of them did anything to me. so i don't know what to do i've tried everything i just can't sleep. this is getting out of control and rediculous. it's making me drag throughout the day. and making my mind really hard to function.
I got a phone call this morning saying that i'm going to be speaking at Zone Conference i'm not to excited about that. but i guess i'll learn something from doing it. i don't know why they are having me. i'm really nervous the President will be there and everything. i'm speaking on "how having members at appointments brings the spirit of conversion more strongly" Well that's all for now, i better get off to doing laundry and all my other P-day stuffs.I love you all and hope everything is going well I keep you all in my Prayers.Elder Stuart J. My thoughts....

I just want to write to say how extremely blessed I am to be a part of this wonderful family. Although we all have different lives going in all directions, it is so nice to have the support of the Denny Family and to share the bond that we share. I thought of my Grandma Denny several times today as the generosity poured and family time was spent. What a wonderful example you all are to me.

Celebrity sighting.

This could actually be a regular feature as I frequently see celebs. This one is for all the baseball fans in the family (I know there are at least two). We saw Jose Canseco on the treadmill at our gym. We didn't talk to him as the "culture" in LA is "Please don't feed the celebrities", feed their egos that is. We leave them alone and just stare discreetly.

stu got transferred and we just got a hand written note, so I'll tell you a few details. he's now in middlebury vermont, which is on thw mid western side of vermont. it looks kinda close to lake placid. his new companion is elder wing. stu is excited to be in vermont for the fall because of the beauty, but he'll probably think differently when full winter hits and it's freezing. we'll see. he said there aren't many members there, so he's excited for the many opportunities to bring to a lot of God's children. how blessed we are to have the gospel of Jesus Christ. stu's new address is:

How we spent our Saturday night.

Some of you may not know that Venice, California used to have canals instead of streets. The canals went for sixteen miles around town (including my street). Today there are still 6 miles of canals and they are a couple of blocks from our house. The area is very beautiful and a very expensive place to live. Tonight we went to the "Dive in" movie at the canals. They put a giant movie screen on the side of one of the bridges and everyone piles into boats, kayaks, rafts, canoes and then watches the movie from the canal. I had Gunther in my Kayak with me (we got soaked) and Bradley had Hannah with him. We popped popcorn and had many begging ducks during the movie. While we watched "The Incredibles" Bradley said "Who gets to do this?" and he is right. We are lucky and blessed to live in such a wonderful and beautiful area. We had a fun Saturday night that I wanted to share with all of you.

the middle name

Hey Mark--and others,
The middle name is in honor of Sophie's 2 grandfathers. Tim's dad is Mark and Kara's Kelly, so that is how the name came about. I think it is great to honor them --they are well deserving and have many, many excellent qualities that can make Sophie proud to bear their names. It is Markelle with an "e" on the end because they thought it looked more like a girl name that way.
Just thought everyone would like to know.
