May 30th, 2007 was a big day for the Dave Denny's!
first, we went down to Provo to the MTC and took Brayden to start his two year vacation in Canada! OK, maybe it's not a vacation, but he is going to Calgary and he's quite excited. I cannot stop wondering what he's doing right now and what he's learning. Everyone did real well, with only a minimal amount of tears and the tears that were shed were tears of joy as we would not want him anywhere else at this time in his life. he did seem excited, and I'm sure he'll do fine.
After the MTC, we all went our seperate ways and it wasn't until 7:35 p.m. that we got our next good news. Stuart has asked Jessics Sackett to marry him and she accepted! we've know it was in the air , but yesterday he gave her the ring and made it official. yes, he's only been home for 6 weeks, but they dated for 1 1/2 years before he went out. she dated, worked and went to school while he was out and they've picked up where they left off a couple years ago, except a lot more mature. the date is August 8th at the salt lake temple. I believe the ceremony is at 8:30 or 9:00 a.m.. I'll get out more info as it comes, but wanted to share our good news with all.

Memorial Day
Amy and I were visiting some Family graves today and the thought came to me that several of my siblings might like to visit those came graves, but distance makes that difficult. I decided to try to allow you to visit through cyber space. I'm sure it's not the same, but focus your nose on the smell of fresh cut Irises and you'll remember many such memorial days where Eula (mom, grandma) grew, then cut and placed such flowers on many a grave of loved ones. then, after you're in the zone, look through these pictures and know that your brother placed flowers on each of these site in behalf of my family, Dad, and the family of all who could not make it this weekend, reguardless of the reason. I love you all and thank you for the great example my siblings and countless others share with my family.

Kalyn's Kitchen Makes the Daily Herald
I'm obviously a bit overwhelmed, because I've been so busy at school this week that I completely forgot that a story about grilling in the Provo Daily Herald was featuring a couple of my recipes and some comments from me about marinating meat. Happy Birthday Brayden.
While you're busy preparing for CANADA I hope you'll take a little time today to enjoy some cake, make a wish, open some presents, and chill out. I know this will catch some off guard, and i'm sorry for that, but most will remember at stuarts homecoming we mentioned that brayden's farewell would possibly be on may 20th. well it is this sunday the 20th at 9:00 a.m.
I know some may not be able to make it and we will miss you, but fully understand. if any o"out of towners" want to get out of town and drive or fly in, we have rooms available and will work that out, just call.
As we did with stuarts, we're planning to stay to the three hour block and go home at about 12:15 for the festivities there. any who wish to go to our home early and visit, or prepare food are completely welcome to do so. do whatever works best for your family.
we love your support and look forward to seeing those who can make it. for those who feel the need to bring something, bring a sidedish, salad, or dessert of you choice.

Denny Reunion

I talked with Aunt Ruth Ann about a month ago, and she still wants to have a Denny Reunion. It is so important to her for all of us to get together at least one more time. W
We are proposing Aug. 18th at 1:00. That is a Saturday. She is going to have it at her house. We plan to have lunch together and visiting.

Aly Klug is aging!
I don't have a really good humiliating picture of Aly to post, but wanted to wish her a very, very happy birthday. Whenever I get an update on what she's up to I have to immediately hang up the phone and go directly to my bed to take a nap from exhaustion. THAT WOMAN IS BUSY! I hope at least for today she takes a little time to smell the flowers, perhaps get a massage, and even better, has ALL OF HER CALLS HELD. We love you Aly. Happy birthday.

Elder Ostler's Letter
Dear Family,
The weather has been mostly excellent over the last week, and is continuing to
improve, or so it seems. Today I am e-mailing from Clarion, PA, because we came
to meet up with the Clarion Elders and volunteered with them at the Clarion
Special Olympics. It was a lot of fun to help out, and I helped out with the
Softball throw, keeping track of how far the ball made it when it first hits the
ground. I think I'm a little sunburnt from being out for about 3 and a half or
4 hours, but it's not too bad. I've been much worse from going to the beach
back home.
The Multi-Zone conference in Butler, PA was great! In the morning, we had four
break-out sessions, 30 minutes each, learning different things in each one.
Then, after having lunch, President Ashley, the Jamestown Stake President spoke
to us, followed by President Humphries, the Brookville District President.
Then, we had another surprise guest speaker, Chris Hoke of the Pittsburgh
Steelers who is a member of the church and served a mission. He talked about
how he related the gospel to football on his mission, and how he has made
sacrifices in his life for the gospel, and how he balances out the gospel with
his career. It was an enjoyable Zone Conference, and it was definitely a good
boost for the rest of the transfer. Yesterday, we had another mini Zone
Conference / Interviews in Brookville, PA and it was also very good. Our Zone
Leaders related missionary work to baseball, which I thought was well done, and
then the assistants gave a very powerful presentation to us on living the law of
consecration on our missions and how that relates to the atonement.
As far as our area is going right now, we taught a media referral in Sandy Lake,
PA last week, and the wife came to church this week, and loved it! Her name is
Laureene Wheaton, and she has been looking for a church for a long time, and
recently lost her brother. She is sincerely seeking for the truth, and I'm
hoping and praying that she will find it. She is very open and very interested
in the gospel, and I can tell she is already living a very good Christian life.
We are excited about her, and I will keep you updated as we continue to
follow-up with her and continue to invite her out to church.
There is one person that you could pray for that would be very much appreciated
by me and by some people in my area. Nicole Troilo's friend, April Chapin has
been in the hospital with cancer for months now, and is in a very critical state
right now, and so we have been praying for her more lately. She has been at
this point before, but this time they're not sure if she'll be able to get back
out of it. Please pray for her, and for those who know and love her, including
her parents and Nicole and Sam.
I love serving out here each day, and gaining a stronger faith in Christ, and
also greater love and charity for my fellow brothers and sisters in this area.
It's amazing how much my love for my brothers and sisters has grown on my
mission and how much it continues to grow. I especially love all of you, my
family, and am eternally indebted to all of you for being there for me. I hope
you have a great week and enjoy the good weather.

Bridger...we can't forget about YOU!
Today is all about Mothers and one incredibly cute little guy: Bridger. Today I believe he is ONE. Can you imagine being ONE! If I were one again I'd insist on smearing cake all over myself and everything else. I'd refuse a nap. I have my mom rub her hand up and down my back for several hours. I'd blow out the candle and then insist it be lit again so I could blow it out again. And I'd want the entire day caught on video for all to see and remember. You got that Heather and Danen? How to Put Photos on the Blog
Putting photos on the blog is easy, but there are some tricks that will give a better result. Here are a few things I've learned:
1. Save the photo on your computer in your photo storage location. For best photo quality, have the picture sized the size you want it to be on the blog (less than 600 px. wide). It will help those with slow internet connection if people optimize the photo file size to less than 75.5 kb, but some people may not have a program that does this. It's not essential, it just helps the page to load faster.
2. Open a new post. In blogger all photos load at the top, so if you're doing multiple photos, upload the lowest ones first.
3. Click on the little icon that looks like a photo. This will open a window where you find the photo on your computer and also choose the size and location of the photo.
4. Under "Add an image" choose browse and find the photo on your computer. Double click the picture to put the location in the bar.
5. Choose the location for the photo (left, center, or right) and the size (small, medium, or large.) To make the photo the same size as you saved it on your computer, choose large (this will give the best picture quality.) It is definitely easier to use the "Center" option and place your type above or below the photo.
6. Click "Upload photo" and then "done" when the picture shows up.
If you need to move pictures within your post:
(PC directions, but I think it's similar on Mac.)

Help putting pictures on the blog
Please one of you techies write me a step by step tutorial of how to put pictures on the blog. I've done it once a long time ago but need a refresher course. Most of our pictures are in picasa so if you know how to do ir related to that software, it would be helpful. Gracias, Mark

Food, Fun, Jazz, and the world's BEST Mothers!!
Howdy y'all,
That's what Justin says now and its starting to rub off on me! Hey, how about an impromtu party friday the 11th to celebrate a few things. First and foremost would be all the great Mothers in the world, but especially those in this family, and there are a lot!! Matter of fact, I think I have lost count. No cooking for the Mothers!!
Second, and very important in my family, is Cinco de Mayo last weekend which is honored for the famous Battle of Puebla where a few hundred valiant Mexicans fought relentlessly for their freedom against the French Army of thousands to maintain their independence, and won. You know I married an absolutely beautiful mexican senorita a few years ago and my life has not been the same since. Thanks Lisa. Te quiero para siempre!! Bring something good to eat from Mexico, or just come eat whatever you find , I'm sure there will be lots! I'm thinking smoothy margaritas and carne asada burritos smothered with chile verde... what do you think? or maybe huevos rancheros! Enough, I'm already hungry. Just post your favorites and we'll see what we can do.
Third, friday just happens to be game three of the 2nd round of the playoffs for the Jazz and a great reason to celebrate eating!! Do Denny's really ever need a reason to eat? Anyway, the game starts at 7:00 so anyone who would like to stay is welcome to watch and cheer on the Jazz or Golden State, whichever you choose, don't worry, we will allow both team's supporters to eat for the first two reasons listed above.
Come one, come all and wear your tennies cause the volleyball will be happening in the back yard! Call us or post on the blog if you can make it so we can figure out enough food. Like there's ever not enough, ya right. Show up any time around 6, or whenever you can, we'll leave the light on.

Your invited to a blog baby shower!!
Ok, this is what I propose... I have had many of you ask if we are having a baby shower for Andrea and baby boy McClelland because you would like to do something to help her with the new little one, so.... I have racked my brain and finally decided to have a blog shower for them!!! I talked Andrea and Eddie into registering for a few things they would like or need for the baby so you can just go to Target.com and type in Andrea McClelland and choose something, or you can do your own thing and send whatever you want, or you can just love them and wish them well, it is totally your option...I just could not think of any other way to do it. Kalyn's Pasta Salad with Italian Sausage, Zucchini, Red Pepper, and Olives
This is the pasta salad I made for Stuart's party and several people wanted the recipe. Not a great photo, but this is a great recipe. You can see the recipe with step-by-step photos on my blog if you'd like them, but I'm publishing the shorter version here. 
Pasta Salad with Italian Sausage, Zucchini, Red Pepper, and Olives(Makes 6-8 servings, recipe created by Kalyn.)
3 cups (dry) Dreamfield's Penne (about 2/3 box)
5 links turkey Italian Sausage (hot or mild, but I like hot)
1 can pitted black olives
1 jar (12 oz.) roasted red bell peppers
2-3 small zucchini, cut in fourths lengthwise, then sliced
1 cup Newman's Own Olive Oil and Vinegar salad dressing
(or use your favorite bottled Italian dressing without sugar)
1/4 cup chopped fresh basil (I used frozen basil from last summer)
1 T dried basil
1/2 cup finely-grated parmesan cheese
1/2 cup coarsely-grated parmesan cheese
Wash fresh basil and chop finely. Mix fresh basil and dried basil into Paul Newman's dressing. (If you can do this earlier in the day it would be best.)
Cut zucchini lengthwise into fourths, then cut into pieces about 3/4 inch long. Cook zucchini about 5 minutes in boiling, salted water, then drain well and cool. Put zucchini into small Ziploc bag with a small amount of the dressing. (This is also best done a few hours before making the salad.)

Saute sausage in small amount of olive oil in large frying pan until it is starting to get firm. Remove from pan and cut in fourths lengthwise, then in slices slightly less than 1/2 inch thick. Drain any accumulated fat from pan, then put sausage pieces back and saute 5-10 minutes more, or until sausage is slightly browned on all sides. Drain and cool cooked sausage in colander.
While sausage is cooling, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook pasta 9-10 minutes, or until still slightly al dente. (Be careful not to cook it until it is soft or it will be mushy in the salad. Slightly underdone is better than overdone if you're not sure.) Don't rinse pasta, but drain in colander and let cool.
Cut olives in half lengthwise and cut red pepper into pieces the same size as olives and put into salad bowl. When pasta is slightly cooled, mix pasta and and sausage into olive/pepper mixture. Add zucchini and any dressing which is in the bag. Add most of dressing mixture and 1/2 cup regular parmesan cheese and mix gently. Chill 1 hour or more. Just before serving mix in rest of dressing if needed, and top salad with coarsely-grated parmesan. This will keep for a day or so in the refrigerator, but you might need to add a little extra dressing before serving the leftovers.

The Batemans
I just thought I'd give you a quick update on the Bateman family. We are all doing great. Bridger and I just returned from an excellent visit to Kansas City, MO & McPherson Kansas to visit Nicole and Emily and their families. My mom, Jenn, Becca, & Jaxon also went. It was a lot of fun. Bridger is getting bigger and bigger by the minute and has been such a fun little boy. Danen is still enjoying his job and we are both excited about some family camping trips this summer. We love you all! It has been way too long since we were able to see anyone in the Denny family so we hope to be able to see you all soon!!!
