Utah Schoolteacher Starts Low-Carb Recipe Blog
I came across this new blog today called Kalyn's Kitchen thanks to a blog entry I read from my new friend Katherine Prouty at Low Carb Freedom. Kalyn Denny, thanks to some technical assistance from her brother Rand, created Kalyn's Kitchen because she loved to cook low-carb and wanted a better way to distribute her recipes other than to her friends via e-mail. She specifically followed the South Beach Diet and lost 35 pounds while increasing her energy and dropping the cholesterol medicine. WOO HOO!I don't usually post low-carb recipes or their links on my blog because frankly everybody and their momma has their own definition of low-carb. And while I don't adhere to the South Beach way of doing low-carb, I think Kalyn has crafted some tasty treats for even the most finicky of eaters.Most importantly, Kalyn shares in my passion about livin' la vida low-carb and wants to help reverse the "negative stereotypes" that are out there, especially in the media. Well, Kalyn, that's exactly what Livin' La Vida Low-Carb is all about! We'll keep telling the truth in this forum until everyone realizes how healthy and delicious low-carb living can be. Ya'll (that's the Southern boy in me coming out!) go see Kalyn's Kitchen and cook yourself some vittles to try! Let me and Kalyn know what you think!

MORE VERY, VERY EXCITING NEWS

What I plan to do on memorial day.
Darren worked very hard on the Denny History pages, and I plan to spend part of my memorial day adding to them. Tomato Sighting!
I am very excited to report that I saw my very first tomato on a plant in the garden. It's actually on a plant called Lemon Boy so possibly my first tomato of the year might be a yellow one. This is a true sign of summer!
I've been working on my blog today. I made my comments smaller and cleaned up some of the posts that had a lot of white space, with the goal of making it easier to scroll through the recipes. Let me know if you notice any difference.

Happy Summer Days!!!!
I just wanted to tell everyone......HAPPY SUMMER DAYS!!! It is finally warm enough in Logan to lay out at first dam. This is the best part of the year. I hope everyone is loving it as much as I am.

Grateful for Kristen
This past Tuesday, Kristen was in a bad accident on the freeway. I received the call from her at 4:45 and I rushed to the scene. I was grateful to receive the call from her---she was ok. Quite shook up, but so was I.
A car cut her off and as she tried to avoid being hit by that car she spun out----turning donuts across all three lanes of traffic and coming to rest in the left [fast] lane. She was hit---or she hit-- a huge suburban. It crunched her car, but the impact on his was in the middle of the back door and not too bad. It could have been much worse if she had been hit head on with the suburban or any other vehicle traveling at that busy time of day.
All other vehicles missed hitting her.
We are so grateful for her and for her being watched over and kept safe. No serious injuries to anyone and we are thankful for that. The crunched car can be replaced---or maybe fixed we don't know yet.

Better than Consumer Reports: Denny Reports
I am in the market for a new refrigerator with water and ice in the door. I know that most of you (at least the "older generation") already have this type of fridge. I have gone to look at them twice and am kind of dazed by the endless brands and options. If you have a side-by-side fridge with water and ice in the door please leave a comment telling me what brand you have and what you like and don't like about it. Much thanks!
Surprisingly so far I like the cheaper brands best. Crisper space is a big issue for me and of the ones I have looked at, GE and Kenmore have about 1/3 more crisper space than some of the more expensive brands.
By the way, one reason I am able to "trade up" to a bigger fridge is because my genius contractor put a spacer board above my current fridge which can be removed and the resulting space is the exact size I need. What a guy.

I have a GIGANTIC favor to ask of all of you.
As you may or may not know, Bradley and I are launching a new business. We are psyched. It’s called untangledlife.com It is your “official outfitter to a wireless life”. The site will have three sections: The “untangled shop”: a place to buy all kinds of wireless gear. “The WiBrary”, a place for news, info, reviews etc. all related to wireless. (perhaps you’ve already visited, and thanks for the comment Ben!) And lastly, “The Untangler”, a forum for customers, who need help or want to help others with their wireless worries. So why am I writing? We need your help. (all of you, and everyone on your email lists if you’re so inclined, no shame right?) We would like to get a jump-start on the whole Search Engine thing before our official launch, in about a month and a half. Here’s how you can help,(and it really does help). Go to Google or another search engine, and type in the search bar, (in quotes) untangled life wireless We may not come up. If we don’t, try another one. If you see us come up,click on the link to us and come into the site. Coming in through a search engine will help us to start being recognized by them. It helps FAR more than just typing in our address and coming in. Once you’re in the site, explore, read, and post a comment if you like. It’s good to know somebody is reading what I’m writing. (Comments also help us get recognized as they are seen as a link between us and another person). That’s it. The more people I can get to do this, and the more often they do it, the better. And on multiple search engines. If you have :60 seconds in a day and nothing to do, go to a search engine and type in untangled life wireless and then click into the site, (the clicking in is vital) And please, tell your friends, neighbors, strangers, mail carriers, teachers and everyone else to visit as well. A note from our "helpful advice" department.
I don't usually pass on things I get from friends on my email, but I thought this was worth sharing. It's a little bit long but has some very good advice for all of us. Here it is:
A corporate attorney sent the following out to the employees in his company. The next time you order checks have only your initials (instead of first name and last name) put on them. If someone takes your checkbook, they will not know if you you’re your checks with just your initials or your first name, but your bank will know how you sign your checks.Do not sign the back of your credit cards. Instead, put “PHOTO ID REQUIRED”.Very smart. When you are writing checks to pay on your credit card accounts, DO NOT put the complete account number on the “For” line. Instead, just put the last four numbers. The credit card company knows the rest of the number, and anyone who might be handling your check as it passes through all the check processing channels won’t have access to it. Put your work phone # on your checks instead of your home phone. If you have a PO Box use that instead of your home address. If you do not have a PO Box, use your work address. Never have your SS# printed on your checks. (DUH!) You can add it if it is necessary. But if you have it printed, anyone can get it. Place the contents of your wallet on a photocopy machine. Do both sides of each license, credit card, etc. You will know what you had in your wallet and all of the account numbers and phone numbers to call and cancel. Keep the photocopy in a safe place. I also carry a photocopy of my passport when I travel either here or abroad. We’ve all heard horror stories about fraud that’s committed on us in stealing a name, address, Social Security number, credit cards.
Unfortunately, I, an attorney, have firsthand knowledge because my wallet was stolen last month. Within a week, the thieve(s) ordered an expensive monthly cell phone package, applied for a VISA credit card, had a credit line approved to buy a Gateway computer, received a PIN number from DMV to change my driving record information online, and more. But here’s some critical information to limit the damage in case this happens to you or someone you know:
We have been told we should cancel our credit cards immediately. But the key is having the toll free numbers and your card numbers handy so you know whom to call. Keep those where you can find them. File a police report immediately in the jurisdiction where your credit cards, etc., were stolen. This proves to credit providers you were diligent, and this is a first step toward an investigation (if there ever is one). But here’s what is perhaps most important of all : (I never even thought to do this.) Call the 3 national credit reporting organizations immediately to place a fraud alert on your name and Social Security number. I had never heard of doing that until advised by a bank that called to tell me an application for credit was made over the Internet in my name. The alert means any company that checks your credit knows your information was stolen, and they have to contact you by phone to authorize new credit. By the time I was advised to do this, almost two weeks after the theft, all the damage had been done. There are records of all the credit checks initiated by the thieves’ purchases, none of which I knew about before placing the alert. Since then, no additional damage has been done, and the thieves threw my wallet away This weekend (someone turned it in). It seems to have stopped them dead in their tracks. Now, here are the numbers you always need to contact about your wallet, etc., has been stolen:

Three Items of Business
- I confess. I changed K's sreen-saver at the party. I can't believe so many of you pegged me. It was just begging me to make some joke of it. And Rand was right: I was in and out of there in under 2.3 seconds.

Congrats Everett!!
Congratulations are in order for Ev! Good job. We have been busy this week hosting Tori's Mom and sister, and attempting to finish our attic. Some of you may or may not know that the worlds biggest and best amusement park is right here in Ohio, called Cedar Point, and is about 1hr from cleveland where we live, so we all went on saturday and I went on my first roller coaster! Wow, it was crazy, and I decided that it wasn't for me. I just couldn't get into that sinking stomach feeling very much. For those of you that love roller coasters, more power to you. Rand, you said you were headed to the East coast for a vacation, if you guys love amusement parks and more roller coasters than you can ride in a full day, you should try and make it to cedar point! I hope everyone is well, we were sorry that we missed the BBQ at Kalyn's house, just add it to the list. We love you all!

Too Much Technology in the Family? Guess who did it, and other assorted news.
Last night most of the Dennys who live around Salt Lake came to my house for a barbecue. We had a great time. My friend Susan also came with her two kids. Those of you who live away, we missed you and wish you all could have been there.
On the screensaver of my computer I have a scrolling message which says "HAVE YOU EXERCISED TODAY?". During the party someone changed it to say "Exercise is overrated". Leave a comment and tell me who you think did it. If the guilty party confesses I will let you know who it was.
On another note-
Ostlers entire family (except Mitchell) are giving talks in church today. I sure would have liked to be there for that. I bet they were great.
All of us who are in the business of teaching kids are sure counting down the days until freedom. I guess the kids who are in the business of learning are also counting. I know that Kenzie and Mason were pretty quick to tell me when their last day is (this Friday). I think Stouffers might have the record for getting out the earliest, unless Kansas schools get out early. For those of us in Davis, it's Thursday, June 2 (at 1:25 P.M. officially). Can't wait until then.

I have a new favorite show.
If you remember my post about the glasses, well I found help. There is a show on the National Geographic Channel called "The Dog Whisperer". It is WONDERFUL. I highly recommend it just for pure entertainment but ESPECIALLY to any of you that have a dog with some quirks. Tonight's episode had a Min Pin and the behaviors were identical to Dr. Love. We are learning a LOT. I was going to post a schedule, but it's on frequently so check your guide. Another great show on that channel is "Dogs with Jobs". Very interesting. Both worth checking out.

Once you visit the above link, to save it (if you want to, without an Internet connection), just chose "Save Page As..." from the "File" menu at the top of the screen (depending on what browser you use and what kind of computer, your menu titles may vary). One word of caution: they make it hard to save on purpose (they want you to visit their website in order to view the presentation).
They also offer a screensaver that you would have to purchase (about $10). I'm not sure about the whole subscription service, but personally I would probably stay away from that.

How many of you had Mrs. Ellis at Stoker School?
I just saw in the Davis County Clipper online that my kindergarten teacher, Mrs. June Ellis died. She was 89, which doesn't seem possible as I thought she was that old when I was in kindergarten. Well, she looked like a grandma to my five year old eyes. She was a wonderful kindergarten teacher. I remember her very fondly.

WARNING: My dog needs glasses.
I just thought I'd warn all of you (just in case you decide to drop in) Dr Love has a thing for prescription glasses. No, she doesn't try them on to see the birds more clearly. She doesn't play dress up and wear them around the house. She doesn't even use them to read the tiny writing on a medicine bottle. SHE CHEWS THEM UP. And, the more expensive the glasses, the more she can't wait to get her pearly whites on them. She made a meal of Bradley's Gucci glasses about a month ago and just this weekend she partook of my Pradas. She can't just go for a random slipper, shoe, or throw pillow, no, that would be too easy and inexpensive. They have to be glasses and they have to be prescription. I think I need the Dog whisperer. And we need to learn to not put glasses on the nightstand. You've been warned.

Family History Blog
Hi everybody - I need your help.
Inspired by Grandma Denny and my own mom ("Doesn't anybody work in this family?"), and in an attempt to test/prove the usefulness of this blog, I've created a project for you all.
One of Grandma Denny's true loves in life was her family, including those that came before her. She spent literally her entire life learning about her ancestors. Several years ago, I took the histories that she had compiled and typed them all, added photos (that I had), and put them in a browse-able format for all to enjoy. I had hoped to one day publish these histories to CD-ROM or some other medium, but ran into a few roadblocks and the project was somehow pushed into the background. Well, the time has come to complete the project.
However, before I complete the CD-ROM I come to you begging for your help. Many of you are (for lack of a more politically correct way to say it) older than I am. Consequently, you actually knew many of the ancestors that I was never priveledged to meet. As one who really would like to know more about "my roots", I would sincerely appreciate any insights you can give me into their lives.
To facilitate this undertaking, I have decided to create a blog that lists our direct ancestors, along with a few photos that may aide in bringing back any memories. All that I ask is that you visit the blog and comment on any of the relatives that you may have known. If typing is too much of a pain, then feel free to record your thoughts in any way (audio, video, etc.), but please record them! (I'm specifically thinking of Grandpa Denny here - he has an unfair portion of this assignment because he know more people than the rest of us).

VACANCY.
Anybody need a beach vacation? The Love shack will be vacant this summer, and it's yours for a good price: Free. From about July 25th to August 15th, we will be road trippin' on the east coast. If anybody could use a little Venice Beach time, just let us know. We'll even stock the fridge for you. The weather should be perfect, and we're a two minute walk to the beach. Sun. Sand. Free. It's Good To Be Home
Thanks to Dad (Grandpa) for reminding everyone about my blog, and thanks to Bradley for putting a link to my blog on Dennyconnect. (It's on the left-hand side under links if you haven't noticed it.) I'm having fun sharing recipes on the blog.
I just came home Sunday from four days in D.C. It was fun to see old friends and see the town again. I visited the exhibit called "Faces of the Fallen" where many different artists have used different styles to do portraits of the men and women who have been killed in Iraq and Afghanistan as of November 2004. It was heartbreaking. Some of them are only 18 years old.
It was fun to visit D.C. again, but it's nice to be home. My garden enjoyed the rain while I was gone, but I need to do some serious yardwork. I'm really happy that school is winding down (16 more days, but who is counting?). Life is good. I am happy to be part of such a great family.

Grandma Denny
Sure do like the photo of Grandma and Rand. I miss her, too.
FYI for all Denny's that aren't Drapers. My mom (Sandee) sure gave a great talk in church yesterday (Mother's Day) that included a very good tribute to Grandma. I couldn't help struggling to hold back a tear or two myself throughout the whole talk.
Anyway, my hat goes off to all mothers out there, including my own, Grandma Denny, Norma, and my wife. I truly don't know how you do it and am grateful for all you do.

My favorite photo of Mother and I.
I don't know where this photo was taken, but I adore it. I too miss our mother. I am completely in awe of her. Truly one of a kind and remarkable. I am also in Awe of the other mother's in our family. What a hard job. Makes me tired just typing about it. Happy Mother's Day to all of you. And a special Happy Mother's Day to a great Step Mother, Norma.I love you all.
Photo tip of the day.
This morning I thought I'd clean out my flickr photo account a bit, so I deleted a few photos. Well...photos started disappearing from the blog. Yikes. Luckily, Bradley is a code wizard and was able to restore the photos.The lesson here is: the photos that appear on the blog are just LINKS to whatever photo program you use, so if you delete them, they disappear. Just thought I'd warn you all.

The Family's getting smarter all the time.
CONGRADUATIONS (no that's not a typo) are in order. Yesterday the father of the darling twins below (no, not Andrea and Eddie, the other twins) graduated from the University of Utah. Jeff's degree is in Business Finance. Something I'm also very good at...NOT. Congrats Jeff. It's gotta feel really good to have that degree in your hand.
And, today, Mrs. Bateman (that would be Heather) is graduating from Utah State University. (I think it's today). I'm not sure what the degree is so, somebody let us all know. We are so proud of you Heather. Huge Congratulations. Now you can take a big, deep breath.

I'm getting addicted to the blog
Those who have watched my shopping sprees through the years realize that I do have something of an addictive personality. Now I find I'm getting addicted to the blog. Never worry, this is good news.

Another letter from an Elder. Brandon Howell.
well, i have been praying earnestly on behalf of Grant and Gar and Jane so that the Lord would do what he saw fit to do. it appears that he was needed on the other side more. be sure and let them know how concerned and sorry i am and i will continue to pray for them. this is all pretty awkward to me becuase when i go home im not gonna know what to say to my new brothers and sisters in law and nephew........but im sure it will be awkward for them too. just gotta let that time come and not worry about it i guess. those pictures were awesome! e looked way good. unfortunately the other picture was really dark and i could hardly see the people in it. are there any other better family pictures to send?
anyway, the work is awesome here in Santa Fe and my comp is a stud. yesterday we took another investigator to church. he didnt seem all that excited to be there but we will see if the Spirit works in him. his name is fernando and he lives with a member family(well, the mom is a member, the dad not). we are also trying to teach the dad to get them both baptized. there are a bunch of others that we are working with that the Lord has blessed us with. im lovin being a trainer because he is super humble and willing to work as hard as his body will let him.........in fact, i think his legs and feet are about to reach the limit. ;) i remember those days! thanx for all your love and support and prayers. i love you all.

Thanks Rand for helping with the bloggin problem, I don't know what went wrong, but it seems to be working after a second username etc. I've been trying to blog since early last week and nothing was working. It looks like the problem is solved.

A letter from Elder Stuart Denny
hey family and everyone else that is going to be reading this little letter
of mine. so far I am in Sanford, Maine. it's not really a big city but it
has a lot of potential. i absolutely love it here though there is a lot of
nice people but there are many rude people as well. so have you sold my
truck yet. i hope so. how has everything been going at home Brayden are
you going to the morp dance or what when are you going to write me. anyway
it has been raining for a long time now and quite frankly i'm getting sick
of it but i guess i'll get over it you know. everything here is still dead
the trees bushes and stuff but since all of this rain has been comming i
think that we will be able to get some green stuff soon and start to have
this place looking beautiful. there is a lot of trees and forests. it
rocks the ward here is tiny but they are all very missionairy minded.
infact they even have there own white ward missionairy handbook. like the
one that they give us for our missions they have one for the ward because
every member is a missionairy. we are getting a lot of meals here infact
most nights we are gone at different homes. today we even had an elderly
couple make us a sweet breakfast. there are four elders in this area
however we don't live in the same apartment. they are elder grote. elder
jensen . and my comp elder scoll. and me . they are a great group of guys
we all get a long great i sent a letter home to you today so you'll get it
soon in the letter i told you about some people who are in my ward here
that are going to be in Layton at our stake center this saturday for their
grandsons baptism I gave them your address and they are going to be dropping
in. they said that if there is anything that you would like to send out to
me that they would be more than happy to bring it out to me. so find me
something good I don't know if i need anything but anything you feel that i
am in need of would be great. well i am alive and loving my mission. but
that's all i have to say for now. I hope that all of you are having fun i
hope that you are praying for me i'm praying for you, oh ya we are having
lots of success.

It finally stopped raining here in Logan......luckily I came back to a house that wasn't flooded out by the canal. I was a lucky one!!

I just thought that I'd stop the rumors before they got any worse...NO, I am not pregnant!! Nicole thinks that she is hilarious, but really she just knows that she can say whatever she wants because she lives clear in Kansas!(yes...I did that on purpose, Mrs. Missouri) Anyway, just a little clarification for any of you who might have read that little blog! I'm pretty sure that she is still mad at Danen for getting her a bib for Christmas last year! :)

I can't believe I finally got set up. Thanks Rand-it only took three invitations. Things are going good in Missouri but I miss the family. I am lucky to have Emily and her family so close and they make it a lot easier to be away. I just wanted to state for the record I kick everyone's butt in Dr. Mario and Ang and Heath are lucky I don't live there because I would beat them so much they would not even like the game anymore. Nice to see you all
It was great to see so many people at the reception last night. You don't realize what an enormous family we have until somebody tries to take a picture of us all. Woah - what an experience - and to think that only about half of us were there!
