Together......March 2009

I thought we needed to post a few of these shots
for posterity! I wish they were better.
This is the "funny" group shot--I think I am the only
funny one.The sister sibs --sorry K, this is the only
one taken with my camera.

The best shot gotten with my camera.....
anyone that wants to replace these with
better shots, do it.
Remember these are untouched!!!!

Trav goes Tubular.

This is a picture of Travis (in his dreams) while he was renting that ocean front (in his dreams) beach house in Malibu (in his dreams) for that entire summer (in his dreams). He started every morning with some surfing (in his dreams) and ended every day with a pizza (in his dreams). You know what they say: It's ok to dream. Especially on your birthday! We love you Trav. Have an "epic" birthday!

I have a new job!

I've realized one very important lesson recently: if you are patient, stay true to what's in your core, and continually set intentions for your life, they are delivered. They may not look exactly like you think they'll look, but they are delivered. That's what recently happened with me and my new job.
Here's the back story. I had a mid-life crisis for about 8 months (it ended about three months ago). I decided not to buy a little convertible, but I considered it. Instead I decided to really focus on what I wanted in my life. I had sort of made up my mind that advertising wasn't going to do it for me anymore. Not that there's anything wrong with advertising, but I just knew that I couldn't spend that much of my day out of alignment with my core. I was wrong about having to give up advertising. I found the perfect situation, where I can use my talents and experience, and do things that are aligned with doing good, and with trying to make the world a better place.
I am now a Partner and head of the creative department at NEIGHBOR. We are a new generation, creative agency that does purpose driven marketing. Our manifesto has only three words: do sustainable good. Our work falls loosely into the areas of Eco/Sustainability, Health/Wellness, and Social Responsibility. We have a parent company with offices all over the world. The CEO of that company wanted to do Neighbor as a way of "giving back."
Currently we are working with O Organics (a Better Living Brand, from Safeway) and Eating Right. We have new campaigns launching for both of these brands in January. Very fun work. We're also just beginning a brand audit, identity project, and campaign development for Manduka, an eco/sustainable yoga mat and clothing company, and BlueDot, a brand new idea in recycling management. We've also got some other interesting things already in the pipeline, in addition to defining Neighbor and what we stand for, which is VERY fun. We're looking for office space in Venice so that people can walk to work. We're also setting policy that everyone work from home a minimum of 1 day a week. It's exciting to build a new organization based on a model of sustainability and doing good.
Needless to say, I'm super stoked. Even though I'm working long hours, it's pretty amazing to know that at the end of the day you are making the world a little better...and getting paid for it!
I hope all of you are manifesting brilliant things in your lives. I'd love to hear about them.
Peace.

Coming up for air.

I plan to this weekend. And then I'll post an update. Not that you're all sitting on the edges of your seats, but some of you have asked for an update on the new job. BTW, the picture is me sitting at my desk this week.

My knees are still shaking a little.

Apologies to those of you who have wondered if we are "unshaken" after the earthquake in California. I'm SWAMPED on a very exciting new venture (details later) and haven't had a chance to update here. But here's the update. I'VE TRULY NEVER BEEN MORE SCARED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I was in my office on the third floor of a large building when it hit. (Yes, I know, you're thinking, 'Office? Rand has an office?' Like I said, details later.) I was nearly knocked off my feet during the very first shake. After that the blinds in my office were slamming into the windows and the entire building shook very hard for what felt like 3o seconds. I wasn't sure what to do so I RAN to the stairwell. It was jammed with people exciting the building. After about 1/2 hour outside I was hesitant to return to the office. Thankfully, other than rattled nerves, no damage was found at the office or house. Thanks for the well wishes. I hope to not feel anything like that again soon. SCARY!

PS: I just grabbed that picture of the road...it's nothing I actually saw.

Birthdays, Birthdays, and MORE Birthdays!

Can you see Everett in this picture? Well...he's not actually in it, but it WAS taken in gorgeous Wyoming. And today is actually his birthday. If any of the Howell's have a recent snap of Everett...please share! We love you Ev...Happy, Happy birthday.
It's terribly sad that Mason got that red rider BB gun for his birthday and went and shot his eye out! I'm not sure if he also shot Ang and Kenz...but it's possible. Cam looks unscathed...but LOOK OUT! We hope you have a wonderful birthday Mason. We love you.
And how could I forget Gunther! I actually didn't...but we had a house full of 13-year olds sleeping over for Hannah's belated party that I decided I'd post about his later. He had a wonderful birthday on the 13th! (And a wonderful time in Wyoming, as you can see from the picture.) Gunther got an iPhone for his birthday...without the phone activated. He gets it activated next year! (Boy was he excited.) We love you Gunther!

Sundance 2008 - Rachel

This is who Rachel hung out with during the blackout in Park City. It's Dylan Walsh from the show Nip/Tuck. She loves that show so it was exciting to see him. Rand, Rachel said that she was disapointed as well that she didn't see her lover Will Smith, but "Sean McNamara" will do!

The House is BIG

Wow!! The extreme house is moving right along. It is Tuesday evening and this is how far they have gotten on the house.
Remember the before picture of the house----the new house is huge in comparison. They say it is 4000 sq. ft. They are very humble people and will probably be embarrassed by the whole thing.
It has been so fun watching it progress---now I'm a little uptight that I will miss seeing the rest. We [Kelly & I] are going out of town so we will miss the grand finale. Maybe Kristen will take pictures and keep you up to date.
Pam

Notice the size of that crane!! Cooper says WOW!!!

Extreme home makeover in pictures!!

Today was the day to see the house come down. Aly and I walked up to the place at 7:30am. We saw Ty, Micheal, Nigel, the girls --whatever their names are---and all the crew. After 4 takes on the march down and up the street, we were too tired to stay any longer. Kara and Cooper had joined us by then and they were also ready to go. All that waiting--3 hours-- and we missed seeing the house come down.
We went back about 1 1/2 hours later and the house was gone. We did watch the trees come down. Here are a few pictures----

We're off to the Big Apple.

I need a vacation just from preparing for our vacation. Ugh...I'm exhausted. We're off to New York, New Jersey, Conneticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine, Maryland, Washington DC and Virginia. We'll be gone for twenty days. Dr Love is coming along and so are Gunther and Hannah. I hope we're all friends when we're done. Actually, I'm sure we'll have a good time. Somebody run untangledlife.com while
we're gone will ya? We'll keep you posted with updates. Wireless of course. Much love. R

We Love you Mark, Lisa and Garcia Family.

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting; The soul that rises with us, our life's star, hath had elsewhere its setting, And cometh from afar; Not in entire forgetfulness, And not in utter nakedness, but trailing clouds of glory do we come From God, who is our home.

I am thankful that you're father is now peaceful again Lisa. I am sending you and your entire family continuous strength, peace, prayers, and lots and lots of hugs.
