Kristen's Salon

The end result--Beautiful!!
Thanks Kristen.
Lauren and Morgan had their first
trip to Kristen's salon!!

Happy Birthday VIDA.

You're not working today are you Vida? I hope not. Today is YOUR day. I think you ought to find a nice cool swimming pool you can lounge by the side of while Dan feeds you chilled strawberries with one hand and applies sunscreen with the other. And as for the kids? They're all back home making you a nice big feast of all your favorites for when you return. Dream on right? Happy Birthday Red Bones. We love you.

Denny Family Campout - Additional Directions

Here are additional directions to "Indian Creek Campground". Please see this site for even more information. For these directions, I will assume that you are coming from the North.

From Price, take Highway 10 South (to Huntington/Castle Dale). Just before you get to Castle Dale, turn West onto Highway 29. As you come upon Joes Valley Reservoir, turn onto Cottonwood Creek Road 40 and travel 12 miles north to Upper Joes Valley.

From Upper Joes Valley, there are probably signs, but the map below can give you a better feel for the area.

See you soon (BYO FP, FW and AEYWTB),

Ten going on fifteen.

Hannah is turning 11 today. Last week she graduated from elementary school and now she's well on her way to becoming a teenager. She's what we call a "tween." Here are some of my guesses as to what she would choose for her birthday: Dinner: Indian or Korean. Possibly Sushi. Before dinner: the Beach. Having been born in Hawaii Hannah is a true Cali Beach girl. Birthday cake: definitely chocolate. Or perhaps a Ben & Jerry's ice-cream cake. Happy Birthday Hannah. We love you. PS to Pam's post: Happy Birthday Cooper. I can't believe you're THREE!

SUPER COOPER--3 YEARS OLD!!!

Happy Birthday #3 Cooper!

We all love you---have a fun day.

Love,

Grandma & Grandpa

Hello from the Kynaston's in Kansas. Hot humid weather comes with the climate here. Afternoon swims with the family is about the only way to enjoy the weather :). We are getting settled in our new home and just keeping busy with summer activities. Camps, Crafts, Chores, and all out summertime fun. Thanks for all the love we feel just being part of this family.

Phoenix

The Drapers had a great vacation in Phoenix. We hit the zoo (way cool), Sedona (a bit over-rated), and of course, a baseball game (my favorite). We did plenty of swimming and had an overall great time. Bring on the heat.

What can I say about Emily?

She's gorgeous. She's a darling mom. She's incredibly funny. She takes everything in stride. She has her hands full. She's loving. She has an incredibly positive attitute. She's way thoughtful. She can relate to everyone. She's humble. She's fun as heck. And she's wise beyond her years. Which by the way, just increased by one today. Happy Birthday to my number one niece Emily. We love you TONS. (And then some.)

Denny /Thorne reunion

Today I talked with Aunt Ruth Ann--saw her at the store---and she told me she was planning a Reunion. She would like to have it at her home, where we could come and go and stay as long as we would like.
The saturday she is thinking about is Sept 9th.
Add this to your schedules---and reply and let me know what you think, too. I will then email this to her and let her go ahead with the fine tuning of the gathering.

More later.
Pam

Untangled Life Getting Net Buzz

Rand is too modest to post it here, but Untangled Life has been getting some amazing mentions on the web.

A site called This Next called UL "A gorgeous destination on the web" and goes on to give a glowing review.

On the same day, a site called NotCot says "When these guys get a physical store together, it will blow the Apple Store away."

Way to go guys! Someday we can all say we knew them when it was just a little computer in the garage.

Untangled Family Benefits.

I've got an offer that perhaps some of you won't be able to refuse: saving money. With our business we have access to heaps of electronics. Pretty much everything you can think of, or would ever want. If any member of the family wants anything, or is in the market for anything, I'd be happy to help you get it at wholesale. That means at our cost. The only additional cost would be shipping (whatever the distributor charges), and with some distributors a fee of $5.00 (if the purchase isn't over a certain amount). Keep in mind that in some categories we get very good pricing and in some categories we practically owe people money when they buy stuff. I've thought about doing this for awhile and decided it was time. (Apologies to Erin, I owe you $10.) Just let me know if any of you ever want (or are shopping for) anything and I'll see what I can find. And I'm not just talking about the stuff in our store. We can get almost anything. Just let me know. Peace.

Who remembers: Cracked Wheat.

I think that's what it's called. It's basically wheat that you soak overnight and then simmer for an hour or so. I remember Mom making it and I LOVED it. Now I make it all the time and think fondly of her. Cracked wheat is everything I look for in a cereal: Chewy. Healthy. All natural. It's actually a little "boingy" in your mouth which is a definate plus for me. And perhaps best of all, when you start the day with cracked wheat you don't have to feel so bad about the fry sauce at the occasional lunch. Anybody out there still go for a nice big bowl of cracked wheat?

Jane. Jane. Jane.

Between feedings. Between poopings. Between burpings. Between rockings. Between snugglings: You've been tagged.

Who Remembers McGillacuddys?

This morning while I was out strolling around Venice with Bradley and Dr Love I kept noticing the McGillacuddys along the sidewalk. I'm sure that Valerie and Laurel will remember McGillacuddys. For the rest of you, they're little weed thingys that we used to love to eat as kids. They have kind of a sour taste which seems to have been our favorite taste, considering all the green apricots, apples and rhubarb we used to eat. Next time you're out and about try a McGillacuddy just for old times sake. You do remember them don't you Valerie and Laurel? PS: I'm not sure how they got their name, that's just what we used to call them.

An Amazing Piece of Internet Art

Many of you know that I am a writer for a site called BlogHer (for women bloggers). I'm actually getting paid to do it now! Anyway, today I found something on their site that I thought was so amazing I thought some of you might enjoy seeing it.

We Feel Fine is a project created by two artists who have designed a program which scans blogs looking for times when the writer says "I feel . . . " They collect that data in an ongoing record and analyze it in different ways. Take a look and I guarantee you'll be amazed.

(If you have a slow internet connection you might not want to attempt this. It has a lot of stuff going on.)

Here's the url for anyone who wants to access it from work or school:
http://www.wefeelfine.org/index.html

It's Laurel here -- Is this the Denny blog?

What is one thing you doubt most of us know about you?
I have an innie.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
Fresh fruits & vegetables.

What movie could you watch over and over again?
”Walk the Line” is my current favorite.

If you had to live outside the U.S., where would you live and why?
Anywhere that I could speak Spanish all day long.

What was your least favorite or most favorite subject in school?
Favorite was sociology. Least favorite was math.

What is something that makes you smile from ear to ear?
Sunshine minus the humidity!! We have actually had a lot of that lately.

What's a TV show you hate to admit you like?
American Justice – Oh I also love Venom ER
(figure that out since I hate snakes and I’m a little squemish as well).

Who are your favorite bands or music?
I’m a little bit country; however, I do LOVE the song by Pink entitled, “I don’t want to be a stupid girl”.

What's your favorite fruit or vegetable?
Papaya. Not the whimpy ones you get here, but the lucious ones like in Ecuador.

What age do you think is the ideal age?
Ideal only exists in theoretical realms. Every age has things to savor.

If you could vacation anywhere, where would it be?
Anywhere with Carl.

If you weren't doing what you are doing now, what would you be doing?
I would love to be a counselor/social worker.

What's one part of your daily routine you don't like?
Doing Dishes.

If you were an animal what would you be, and why?
I’m allergic to animals (mentally and physically!!) Sorry animal lovers.

What is your favorite type of Candy (Bar)?
Snickers with Almonds.

Sandals, athletic shoes, high heels or clogs?
If I can’t be barefoot, then it’s definitely sandals.

I tag Jane.

The one and only Matthew.

If any of you happen to see Matt today bake him a cake. I'm thinking a six layer chocolate cake filled with lots of gooey runny goodness inside. And then hand him a present. A beautifully wrapped box full of...well...I can't really tell you now can I or it won't be a surprise. And then be sure to tell him how much we all love him. Happy Birthday Matt. We love you. PS...On the cake write: Happy Birthday Booger. A gooey runny cake with "Happy Birthday Booger" will be perfect!

Nicole. Nicole. Nicole. Nicole. Nicole. Nicole.

What is my dimpled niece going to do today to celebrate another birthday? Afterall, it's not everyday that you get to be QUEEN. I think you should start with a nice massage by Ben. Then perhaps breakfast in bed. Then lunch at your favorite little cafe. Then a little shopping for something fun. Then Ben makes your very favorite dinner. And does the dishes. Then you eat a giant slice of cake. Sounds good to me. Have a wonderful birthday. We love you Nicole.

Bradley's Meme

What is one thing you doubt most of us don't know about you?
I lived in Tonga. Research for my Ph.D.

Indian food. I love it so much. The spices, flavors, vegetables, textures, yum!
What movie could you watch over and over again?
The 5th Element. Most Sci-Fi movies are great.
If you had to live outside the U.S., where would you live and why?
Fiji. I love the ocean and Indian food. Half the population of Fiji are Indians. The British brought them over to work the sugar plantations since the Fijians would have no part in that type of hard labor.

Now.

Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand.
If you weren't doing what you are doing now, what would you be doing?
Building/Designing homes or clothes. I was really torn about going into interior or fashion design.
What's one part of your daily routine you don't like?
Combing my hair.
If you were an animal what would you be, and why?
Lemur. The fur is great and I would love to have a prehensile tail.

Twix. Carmel and chocolate with a cookie crunch. Who can beat that?
Sandals, athletic shoes, high heels or clogs?
After living in Hawaii for 6 years, my feet can only stand to be enclosed for 1 1/2 hours maximum - just enough time for the gym. High heels make me too tall and clogs draw too much attention.

I tag Laurel.
